Helpful staff and large choice of books, organized well and neatly. Checkout system is mostly smooth, but it can take a few tries to scan a library card. The noise level is higher than I would prefer, but it is not too difficult to block out. I personally would rather have the library, on days that it currently closes at 5pm, would instead open later, because many people have a job to do or school to attend, and can only go to the library later in the day. All in all, a good library with a few minor flaws.
This used to be a favorite library for me. However, in the past few years it has become extremely noisy. The library has allowed a profit-making business to tutor students at various tables throughout the library. Thus, anyone there for quiet study has to move and hope they do not end-up next to a tutor and his/her student. Incidentally, the tutors charge anywhere from $100 to $150/per hour. There are rooms to which one can retreat. but these rooms do not have computers. A patron would have to bring his/her own computer. I have been there at all times of the day and evening. The mornings are full of children running and laughing and adults talking at audible levels.The children have a room with doors but frequently both doors are left opened. Children's books are not kept near the children's room or play area. They are kept at the opposite end of the library so the children run to the opposite end laughing and yelling. No such thing as quiet study at this library. It is very, very unfortunate that the culture and environment of a public library is being controlled by a few domineering patrons.
Very helpful staff. French books for kids, for those who go to Normandale. Perfect size library: small enough to feel at home in, big enough to have most books you'd want.
Love the library! very very disappointed in it though, having renovation during summer. where kids should be reading lots of books, for those people who live near there and have to go to different library's. should have done it in the fall...
